Congo – Mapendo – Washed SL34

Notes: Orange Marmalade, Melon, Currant

Mapendo is a special coffee for Presta. Our roaster and general manager, Blair works for the importer to help sell this coffee to roasters like Presta. We are excited to share this story along with this beautiful coffee to our customers.
Mapendo is imported by Mighty Peace Coffee, a woman and Congolese owned social impact company working exclusively with coffee in Congo. Mighty Peace is able to not only influence quality standards with the support of Congo’s first woman Q grader, Linda Mugaruka and her team, but they are helping to further create pathways for sustainable livelihoods via coffee trade by additionally creating an all African logistics and supply chain from Congo to the states.
Mapendo, swahili for “love,” is farmed by a cooperative whose membership is diverse and  nearly 40% of which are women. There are 3 washing stations, including one large and two mini washing stations. A fourth station is under construction along with a modern lab for cupping and quality control.
Mapendo is a fully washed, SL34 varietal from the South Kivu Province in the African Great Lakes Region in Democratic Republic of Congo. It underwent 12 hours of dry fermentation, 24 hours in wet fermentation, and dried for 12-21 days on raised beds until it reached 10-12% moisture content. It is FTO certified (Fair Trade Organic)
Here are a few articles and videos that feature Mighty Peace. The last article was featured by Barista Magazine earlier this year, with our roaster, Blair.
